The Sunday Salon 01-30-11

I wish I could say that today was a nice, lazy, kick back--kind of Sunday. I’m now in the midst of transforming my weekly routine. Since I’ve started back to school, homework has consumed my time (as I figured it would) and left me little for pleasure reading. Oh, I get snippets here and there if I’m not up too late into the night, but half an hour to an hour just doesn’t feel like enough.

I am in the middle of a great book that should be coming out next month or so. It is titled The Oracle of Stamboul and written by Michael David Lukas. It is beautiful so far. I’ve been swept away by this tale…with dreams of Sultans and carpets. **sigh**

I also read a couple of great paranormal romances this past month. I’m really getting into this sub-genre. One was a funny tale, written by a favorite of mine, Judi Fennell. It is akin to the television show, I Dream of Jeannie. And guess what the book is called? I Dream of Genies! Too cute! Very funny and quirky book. If I’m not mistaken, it’s the first in a trilogy.

The second book, Immortal Champion, was a paranormal historical fiction—did not know they made them! Lisa Hendrix is writing a series of books (Immortal Brotherhood), each with a different Norse figure who suffers from a curse--where he spends half his day human and half turned into some form of an animal. Each book moves on to another point in time, and I happened to read the third book, which was set in the 1400’s. Loved this book! A lot of historical detail, a lot of lovin’, with a paranormal twist. How great is that? I am definitely going to go back and pick up the first two books in the series…

That’s it for now. My goal this week is to finish up The Oracle of Stamboul and post some reviews. I think I’m about four behind at the moment.

Happy Reading!

  1. Thanks for the mention Kimm! So glad you enjoyed the book. My editor's comment on Genie Knows Best (book 2 in the series)? "As good as I Dream of Genies." Hope you enjoy that one, as well!

  2. I love being "swept away"! (Was just swept away by the Downton Abbey videos.) I've been reading a lot of heavy nonfiction for a while, so this week I took a break with a nice little Dick Francis novel. Have you read him?
