“In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE.
Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened.
Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day.
It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else...”
My Thoughts:
Things I took away from GONE:
Nightmares
A craving for McDonald’s chicken nuggets
Okay---big mistake for me to read this book. Until now, I was proud of myself for venturing into the world of Dystopian literature. Maybe I should have stuck with dabbling my feet in the water before taking such a huge plunge…
I was attracted to the cover of GONE and coming off of a high after reading the Hunger Games triology. But this book is too far gone for my tastes. I had horrible nightmares after reading it. Everyone under the age of fifteen is left after the others simply disappear. You can imagine what was left behind. Children, little children. And little children dying from neglect and accident is not something I enjoy reading. Oooh…lesson learned for me.
GONE is the first book in a very long series. It really is very creative, but I think it is meant for someone out there besides me. I know it’s a popular series, but sadly—not to my liking.
