I haven’t participated in the Book Blogger Hop for a while, so I thought I’d make a point this week to reach out to everyone that is either old or new to my little blog.
Welcome! Feel free to follow me if you like what I write about. Otherwise, I’ll extend a simple thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit.
This week’s question:
"What book-to-movie adaptation have you most liked? Which have you disliked?"
This is a hard one, because do I stick with the “they made me happy because they stuck to the book”? Or do I go with the “Nothing at all like the book, but I liked the movie anyway”?
Mmm…Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Lord of the Rings, Pride & Prejudice are just some books to movies that I’ve really enjoyed – irregardless of how closely the adaptation followed the book.
I don’t even have to hesitate to tell you all which one I absolutely DESPISED the most:
Here is the book’s description:

| Great Book! |
“Gordon Krantz survived the Doomwar only to spend years crossing a post-apocalypse United States looking for something or someone he could believe in again. Ironically, when he's inadvertently forced to assume the made-up role of a "Restored United States" postal inspector, he becomes the very thing he's been seeking: a symbol of hope and rebirth for a desperate nation. Gordon goes through the motions of establishing a new postal route in the Pacific Northwest, uniting secluded towns and enclaves that are starved for communication with the rest of the world. And even though inside he feels like a fraud, eventually he will have to stand up for the new society he's helping to build or see it destroyed by fanatic survivalists.”
The book is phenomenal. I’ll just leave it at that.
The movie …is APPALLING...I just couldn’t get over how angry I got watching it. For the 1st time ever – I walked out of a movie. Yes, that is how upset I got.

Just stopping by on the Blog Hop.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your list of good adaptations. Two of them are on my list, too.
I've not seen or read The Postman. Guess I'll definitely have to stay away from the movie.
Wow, I've never heard of The Postman but the description of the book looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteLet’s kick off Memorial Day Weekend with some scandal and controversy.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved every minute of the Lord of the Rings films and felt they hit the mark when they brought Tolkien’s masterpiece to the big screen.
(ducking as rotten tomatoes are thrown at me as the torches are lit and the pitchforks raised)
Wait, wait. I can explain! Hop on over to my blog and hear me out – http://www.howardsherman.net

I glad I never took the time to watch or rent that movie now ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Oh my gosh, P&P! I think you're the first person I've seen mention that! What a great one! I do love Pride and Prejudice.
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about it, one of the worst movie adaptions I ever saw was The Cold Equations based on a short story. It's about a guy who's on a space ship, delivering vaccine to a colony planet, when he discovers he's got a stowaway -- he does the math, over and over again, and he doesn't have enough fuel to compensate for the extra weight of the stowaway, so he's forced to eject her into space, knowing that he's saving the lives of hundreds or more of the colonists by doing so. The movie changes the ending! In the movie, he saves the girl, and ejects his chair or something else instead. So dumb.
Nice picks!! I totally love the first Charlie WAY better than the second one;)
ReplyDeleteHoping through on the blog hop. Have a great weekend! Here's ours:)
